Construction NVQs in Leicester

Construction NVQs & CSCS Card Routes — Leicester & Leicestershire

Construction NVQs in Leicester

Leicester’s construction pipeline includes the Waterside regeneration along the River Soar, the Leicester railway station upgrade, and steady logistics and distribution development across the wider county. Construction Training Group turns your on-site experience into a GQA-awarded NVQ and a clear CSCS card route, with assessment built around your work rather than a classroom timetable.

Why Leicester’s workforce is turning to competence-based NVQs

Leicester sits at the centre of Leicestershire’s construction activity, with Waterside regeneration and city-centre schemes running alongside a large volume of logistics and distribution work across the county. Principal contractors here increasingly expect operatives and supervisors to hold a recognised NVQ alongside the right CSCS card before they will be let on site.

Because Leicester’s workload spans everything from city-centre regeneration to major warehousing and distribution units near the motorway network, we take time up front to match each candidate to the pathway that reflects what they actually do day to day, rather than a one-size-fits-all qualification.

We work with individuals and employers across Loughborough, Hinckley, Coalville and Melton Mowbray, arranging on-site assessment locally where practical and remote evidence gathering for candidates covering multiple sites.

What’s being built in Leicester right now

Ashton Green’s 3,000 homes, the Corah Works approval and a £22m station revamp keep Leicester’s trades moving.

Ashton Green

Leicester’s flagship sustainable urban extension, planned for ~3,000 homes, had its next round of housing approved in March 2026.

Corah Works

Planning approval was granted in 2026 for the regeneration of the historic former hosiery factory complex near St Margaret’s — one of the city’s largest brownfield opportunities.

Stocking Farm

The £18.8m estate renewal delivering 50 council homes and 22 supported-living apartments — Clegg Construction appointed July 2026, on site by winter.

Station Gateway

The circa £22m transformation of Leicester railway station is approved, following the completed Great Central Square waterside regeneration.

Working on any of these? Assessment happens on your site — popular routes include the Groundworks NVQ, Bricklaying NVQ, Carpentry & Joinery NVQ, Flat Roofing (Membrane) NVQ, 360 Excavator NVQ and Forward Tipping Dumper NVQ, with the Occupational Work Supervision NVQ Level 3, Construction Site Supervision NVQ Level 4 and Site Management NVQ Level 6 for those running the works.

How assessment works if you are based in Leicester

1Tell us your role, the type of site you are working on in Leicester or the wider county, and the CSCS card you are aiming for.

2We confirm the right GQA-awarded NVQ pathway for your role and set out exactly what evidence your portfolio will need.

3Assessment is arranged around your work — on-site in Leicester where suitable, or through remote evidence gathering if you cover several sites.

4Once your portfolio is complete and, where required, a valid HS&E test is held, you can apply for the relevant CSCS card.

Employers across Leicester & Leicestershire

We work with housebuilders, main contractors and specialist subcontractors operating across Leicester and the wider county, enrolling teams together and mapping each operative to the correct card route rather than a generic qualification. Tell us your workforce numbers and roles, and we will set out the fastest compliant route.

CITB grant guidance: eligible employers may be able to claim towards qualifying training. Grants are not guaranteed — we will help you check what applies to your business.

Beyond regional housing and commercial work, we also support employers and operatives on major national infrastructure programmes, including HS2 and Sizewell C.

Leicester NVQ FAQs

Do you assess candidates outside Leicester itself, elsewhere in Leicestershire?

Yes. We regularly support candidates working across Loughborough, Hinckley and the wider county, not just within the city itself. We will build an assessment plan around wherever your evidence is generated.

Does completing an NVQ guarantee a CSCS card?

No qualification guarantees a card on its own. The right NVQ, together with a valid HS&E test or approved alternative, supports your application, but card approval is always decided by the CSCS scheme itself.

How long does an NVQ take if I am working full-time on a Leicester site?

It depends on your role, experience and how quickly evidence can be gathered from your current work. We will give you a realistic timescale once we understand your situation, rather than a generic figure.

What NVQ do I need for Ashton Green housing sites?

Groundworkers, bricklayers and plant operators take their Level 2 trade NVQ for the Blue Skilled Worker card; working foremen add the Level 3 OWS NVQ for Gold.

Can council-scheme operatives be assessed locally?

Yes — sites like Stocking Farm are ideal for on-site assessment, and our assessors cover Leicestershire routinely.

Level 6 Contract Management "I recently completed the Level 6 Contract Management course with and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The course material is exceptionally detailed, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world construction contracting operations. Since finishing, I have felt much more confident in handling complex disputes and managing strategic procurement processes. The instructors are experienced professionals who provide practical insights rather than just academic theory. A must-do for senior professionals looking to solidify their credentials."

I recently completed my NVQ through Construction Training Group as part of obtaining my CPCS Blue Card, and I can honestly say the experience was excellent from start to finish. From the initial booking, everything was handled professionally and completely hassle free. Communication was clear throughout, and the whole process was organised efficiently, which made it easy to get everything arranged around work. The assessor came out to site and carried out the assessment properly, observing me operating the machine in a real working environment to confirm competency. It was a straightforward and fair process based on actual day-to-day work. The assessor was knowledgeable, professional, and easy to get on with. He explained everything clearly, put me at ease, and made sure I understood what was required throughout. What stood out most was how smooth and genuine the whole experience was. No unnecessary complications, just a well-run, professional service focused on getting you through the process properly. I would highly recommend Construction Training Group to anyone looking to complete their NVQ
