How Long Does a Construction NVQ Take to Complete?
Construction NVQ timescales by level, what affects how fast you finish, and how the on-site assessment process actually works.
A construction NVQ is competence-based, so the time it takes depends mostly on how quickly you gather workplace evidence rather than on classroom hours. Here is what to expect at each level.
Typical timescales by level
As a general guide, a Level 2 NVQ takes around 3 to 6 months, a Level 3 NVQ around 4 to 8 months, and the Level 6 management NVQ around 8 to 12 months. These are indicative ranges — motivated candidates with strong site access often finish sooner.
What affects how quickly you finish
- How regularly you are on site doing the relevant work.
- How quickly you upload evidence and respond to your assessor.
- Whether you take the experienced worker route.
How the assessment works
There are no written exams. Your assessor gathers evidence through workplace observations, photos, witness statements and professional discussion, then builds it into a portfolio against the qualification standards.
Can I speed it up?
Yes. If you are already experienced in the role, the experienced worker route focuses on confirming existing competence. Ask us about it when you enrol.
