NPORS Excavator Training — Bath
NPORS Excavator Training in Bath (N201 / N202)
Construction Training Group arranges NPORS excavator training and testing for candidates in Bath and across Somerset & the South West. Both novice and experienced worker routes are available, with centre-based and on-site delivery where suitable.
Excavator training for Bath operators
Excavator work demands accurate machine control, safe slewing and awareness of underground services and exclusion zones. Our excavator training covers pre-use checks, safe operating technique and working around other site activity.
Training is arranged to suit operators working around Bath, Bristol and the wider Somerset & the South West area. We’ll confirm the right route for your experience level before booking.
Choose your route
Novice route
For operators with little or no prior experience on the excavator. Structured training builds the skills and knowledge needed before assessment.
Experienced worker test
For operators who already work with the excavator and need to prove competence through a shorter testing route.
We can cover tracked and wheeled 360 excavators as well as compact machines — tell us the category you operate and we’ll match the correct route.
What you need before booking
- Confirmation of your experience level so we place you on the correct route
- Suitable PPE for practical training and testing
- Any prior certification or logged hours, if you’re taking the experienced route
CSCS logo card note: NPORS cards can be issued with the CSCS logo where the correct HS&E test evidence is provided within the required timeframe. We’ll explain the requirements before you book.
Delivery & typical duration
Delivery is available at a suitable centre or on your Bath site where conditions allow. Typical duration depends on the route and your experience — this is guidance only and we’ll confirm once we understand your needs.

Where Bath’s excavator work is right now
Berkeley’s 662-home One Waterside scheme has groundworks fully underway on the former gasworks, Bath Western Riverside’s next phase (around 1,000 homes) is in remediation, and the Somer Valley Enterprise Zone near Midsomer Norton is in heavy enabling earthworks. Dig, load and lift evidence from sites like these is exactly what NPORS testing and the follow-on NVQ are built from.
Already operating? Turn your seat time into the 360 Excavator NVQ — assessed on your Bath site, on the route to the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS card. See all NPORS courses.
Excavator FAQs (Bath)
Do you cover both 180 and 360 excavators?
We can arrange training for the relevant excavator categories. Confirm the machine you operate and we’ll match the right course.
Can I test as an experienced operator?
Yes — if you already operate an excavator, the experienced worker test route may suit you. We’ll confirm your eligibility.
Is there 360 excavator work around Bath right now?
Yes — riverside brownfield schemes like One Waterside and Bath Western Riverside are in groundworks and remediation, and the Somer Valley Enterprise Zone is in enabling earthworks. Operators with an NPORS ticket and a Level 2 NVQ are what those sites’ contractors look for.
