Complex Suspended Ceiling Systems NVQ Level 3
Rafts, curves, acoustic features, atrium spans — the ceilings that don’t come out of a standard grid. Prove your advanced fixing competence with a work-based NVQ assessed on site, on the typical route to the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card. It costs £950 fixed with no VAT, typically takes 4–8 weeks with assessment carried out remotely or on site from your normal work — no exams, no classroom, and leads to the Gold Advanced Craft card.
Qualification Overview
Complex suspended ceilings are where the trade earns its craft status: floating rafts and islands, curved and sloped planes, integrated services and lighting coves, long spans in atria — set out from datum in three dimensions and built to survive scrutiny from below. This Level 3 NVQ documents that advanced competence from the feature ceilings you already install.
A CTG assessor visits your projects, observes complex installation and your role leading it, and gathers photos, witness statements and professional discussion. No exams, no classroom — assessor visits are included as standard.
You achieve the GQA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems (Construction), qualification code 610/4449/0, through the Complex Suspended Ceiling Systems pathway — the typical qualification route to the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card.

What the Level 3 pathway covers
One of three formal pathways of the Level 3 Interior Systems qualification — alongside Stretched Ceilings and Service Operable Walls — covering complex suspended ceiling systems evidenced in the workplace. Standard grid-and-tile work is the Level 2 Ceiling Fixing NVQ; we register the level your evidence honestly supports.
Who this NVQ is for
Advanced ceiling fixers leading complex installations on commercial, transport and public buildings. You should be working with minimal supervision on non-standard systems. Typical evidence: interpreting reflected ceiling plans and coordinating services, setting out multi-level and curved geometry, engineering suspensions for rafts and features, installing bespoke and acoustic systems, checking others’ work, and resolving design-to-site issues with contractors.
Entry requirements
No formal entry qualifications, but your workplace evidence must genuinely reach Level 3 complexity — the qualification’s full mandatory requirements must be achievable from your role. Standard installations point to the Level 2 route instead.
CSCS card route
This Level 3 NVQ is the typical qualification for the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card, together with the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test. CSCS issues the card, not CTG. See our CSCS cards guide.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the Complex Suspended Ceilings NVQ take?
Typically 4–8 weeks where complex work is running on your projects.
Do I need the Level 2 Ceiling Fixing NVQ first?
Not formally — what matters is whether your current work evidences Level 3 complexity. We assess that honestly at enrolment.
Does supervising the ceiling squad count towards this?
Leading installation is advanced-craft evidence; formal supervision is a different qualification — see Occupational Work Supervision NVQ. Some candidates take both.
Can lead fixers across our contracts enrol together?
Yes — national coverage handles multi-site enrolments routinely.

Entry requirements
You work at advanced craft level, or you carry some responsibility for the standard of other people’s work, depending on the pathway you take.
To start Level 3 qualification you need:
- A relevant job to be assessed in. This is a competence qualification, so you must have access to real work of the right type while you are registered. No workplace, no evidence.
- Proof of identity — a passport, driving licence or similar, as the awarding body requires.
- A National Insurance number, so we can obtain your Unique Learner Number.
- Enough English to explain your work to your assessor and to talk through your evidence.
- A device with a camera — a phone is fine. Evidence is photos and short videos of your own work, uploaded to your e-portfolio.
You do not need: any prior qualification, any classroom attendance, or to sit an exam. Assessment is entirely in your workplace via a remote e-portfolio, nationwide.
Tell us about any support need, disability or learning difficulty when you enrol and we will arrange reasonable adjustments — it does not affect whether you can take the qualification.
The awarding body sets the final entry criteria for each qualification. If you are not sure whether your current role gives you the right evidence, ask us before you book — we would rather tell you honestly than register you for something you cannot complete.
