Retrofit Supervisor NVQ Level 4

Retrofit Supervisor NVQ Level 4

Retrofit programmes run through occupied homes on funded timescales — supervision holds it all together. Prove your competence with a Level 4 NVQ evidenced from your schemes, on the typical route to the Gold Supervisor CSCS card. It costs £1,200 fixed with no VAT, typically takes 4–8 weeks with assessment carried out remotely or on site from your normal work — no exams, no classroom, and leads to the Gold Supervisor card.

Qualification Overview

Retrofit supervisors coordinate the trickiest programme in construction right now: multiple measures across occupied homes, PAS-compliant installs and evidence packs, residents to manage, funders to satisfy. It’s a supervisory specialism the qualification structure now recognises with its own Level 4 pathway. This NVQ documents your competence from the retrofit schemes you already run.

A CTG assessor visits your schemes, observes real coordination and quality control, and gathers records, witness statements and professional discussion. No exams, no classroom — assessor visits are included as standard.

You achieve the GQA Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision, qualification code 610/1090/X, through the Retrofit pathway — the typical qualification route to the Gold Supervisor CSCS card.

What the Retrofit pathway covers

A formal pathway of the Level 4 Construction Site Supervision qualification for supervisors whose workplace evidence comes from energy-retrofit programmes. It complements — but is separate from — PAS 2030/2035 scheme roles like Retrofit Coordinator, which have their own accreditation routes. Installer-level retrofit qualifications include the Cavity Wall, Cold Roof and Underfloor Insulation NVQs; managers progress to the Retrofit Site Management NVQ Level 6.

Who this NVQ is for

Working supervisors on whole-house and measure-based retrofit schemes for social landlords and retrofit contractors. You should be supervising with genuine responsibility. Typical evidence: scheduling installs across occupied properties, coordinating insulation, ventilation and heating trades, quality-inspecting against the design and PAS evidence requirements, resident liaison and access management, safeguarding and site safety in occupied homes, and completion records funders audit.

Entry requirements

No formal entry qualifications. You must currently supervise retrofit work a CTG assessor can visit. Installers aspiring to supervision should gain supervisory duties first — the NVQ assesses existing competence.

This Level 4 NVQ is the typical qualification for the Gold Supervisor CSCS card, together with the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test. PAS scheme registrations are separate requirements. CSCS issues its cards, not CTG. See our CSCS cards guide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Retrofit Supervisor NVQ take?

Typically 4–8 weeks — active schemes generate daily supervisory evidence.

Is this the Retrofit Coordinator qualification?

No — Retrofit Coordinator is a PAS 2035 role with its own accreditation. This NVQ evidences site supervision competence on retrofit works; many professionals hold both.

Occupied homes — how does observation work?

Assessors follow your scheme’s resident liaison and access rules; occupied-property working is the pathway’s natural environment.

Can our delivery partners’ supervisors enrol together?

Yes — programme-wide enrolments across contractors are straightforward with national coverage.

Level 6 Contract Management "I recently completed the Level 6 Contract Management course with and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The course material is exceptionally detailed, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world construction contracting operations. Since finishing, I have felt much more confident in handling complex disputes and managing strategic procurement processes. The instructors are experienced professionals who provide practical insights rather than just academic theory. A must-do for senior professionals looking to solidify their credentials."

I recently completed my NVQ through Construction Training Group as part of obtaining my CPCS Blue Card, and I can honestly say the experience was excellent from start to finish. From the initial booking, everything was handled professionally and completely hassle free. Communication was clear throughout, and the whole process was organised efficiently, which made it easy to get everything arranged around work. The assessor came out to site and carried out the assessment properly, observing me operating the machine in a real working environment to confirm competency. It was a straightforward and fair process based on actual day-to-day work. The assessor was knowledgeable, professional, and easy to get on with. He explained everything clearly, put me at ease, and made sure I understood what was required throughout. What stood out most was how smooth and genuine the whole experience was. No unnecessary complications, just a well-run, professional service focused on getting you through the process properly. I would highly recommend Construction Training Group to anyone looking to complete their NVQ

Entry requirements

You supervise others: planning work, allocating it, and checking it meets the standard.

To start Level 4 qualification you need:

  • A relevant job to be assessed in. This is a competence qualification, so you must have access to real work of the right type while you are registered. No workplace, no evidence.
  • Proof of identity — a passport, driving licence or similar, as the awarding body requires.
  • A National Insurance number, so we can obtain your Unique Learner Number.
  • Enough English to explain your work to your assessor and to talk through your evidence.
  • A device with a camera — a phone is fine. Evidence is photos and short videos of your own work, uploaded to your e-portfolio.

You do not need: any prior qualification, any classroom attendance, or to sit an exam. Assessment is entirely in your workplace via a remote e-portfolio, nationwide.

Tell us about any support need, disability or learning difficulty when you enrol and we will arrange reasonable adjustments — it does not affect whether you can take the qualification.

The awarding body sets the final entry criteria for each qualification. If you are not sure whether your current role gives you the right evidence, ask us before you book — we would rather tell you honestly than register you for something you cannot complete.
