Stretched Ceilings NVQ Level 3
Membrane tensioned to a flawless plane, welded to size, heated and set in place — stretched ceilings are a specialist’s trade. Prove yours with a work-based NVQ assessed on your installs, on the typical route to the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card. It costs £950 fixed with no VAT, typically takes 4–8 weeks with assessment carried out remotely or on site from your normal work — no exams, no classroom, and leads to the Gold Advanced Craft card.
Qualification Overview
Stretched ceiling installers work a trade few in construction have even watched: perimeter profiles set to millimetre lines, membranes fabricated to the room, heat-tensioned into place around lights, diffusers and features — a finished plane with no joints and no second chances with a torn membrane. This Level 3 NVQ documents that specialist competence from the ceilings you already install.
A CTG assessor visits your projects, observes real installation, and gathers photos, witness statements and professional discussion. No exams, no classroom — assessor visits are included as standard.
You achieve the GQA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Interior Systems (Construction), qualification code 610/4449/0, through the Stretched Ceilings pathway — the typical qualification route to the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card.

What the Stretched Ceilings pathway covers
One of three formal pathways of the Level 3 Interior Systems qualification — alongside Complex Suspended Ceilings and Service Operable Walls — covering stretched ceiling installation evidenced in the workplace. Conventional grid ceilings sit at Level 2 under Ceiling Fixing. We register the route your evidence supports.
Who this NVQ is for
Experienced stretched ceiling installers on retail, leisure, healthcare and residential projects. You should be installing with minimal supervision. Typical evidence: surveying rooms and agreeing membrane fabrication dimensions, fixing perimeter and feature profiles level and true, heat-tensioning membranes without damage, forming cut-outs for services and features with reinforcing rings, multi-level and backlit installations where your work includes them, and immaculate handovers.
Entry requirements
No formal entry qualifications, but the qualification’s full Level 3 requirements must be achievable from your role — regular, genuine stretched ceiling work is the entry ticket. We confirm fit honestly at enrolment.
CSCS card route
This Level 3 NVQ is the typical qualification for the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card, together with the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test. CSCS issues the card, not CTG. See our CSCS cards guide.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the Stretched Ceilings NVQ take?
Typically 4–8 weeks, following your installation diary.
PVC and fabric membranes — both valid?
Yes — the membrane systems you genuinely install all evidence the pathway.
Why is this a Level 3 with no Level 2 below it?
The qualification structure recognises stretched ceilings as an advanced specialism in its own right — the pathway exists only at Level 3.
Can our install teams enrol together?
Yes — two-person teams and larger crews are routine enrolments.

Entry requirements
You work at advanced craft level, or you carry some responsibility for the standard of other people’s work, depending on the pathway you take.
To start Level 3 qualification you need:
- A relevant job to be assessed in. This is a competence qualification, so you must have access to real work of the right type while you are registered. No workplace, no evidence.
- Proof of identity — a passport, driving licence or similar, as the awarding body requires.
- A National Insurance number, so we can obtain your Unique Learner Number.
- Enough English to explain your work to your assessor and to talk through your evidence.
- A device with a camera — a phone is fine. Evidence is photos and short videos of your own work, uploaded to your e-portfolio.
You do not need: any prior qualification, any classroom attendance, or to sit an exam. Assessment is entirely in your workplace via a remote e-portfolio, nationwide.
Tell us about any support need, disability or learning difficulty when you enrol and we will arrange reasonable adjustments — it does not affect whether you can take the qualification.
The awarding body sets the final entry criteria for each qualification. If you are not sure whether your current role gives you the right evidence, ask us before you book — we would rather tell you honestly than register you for something you cannot complete.
